Can we tame the phenomena that drive many age-related diseases?
Buck Professor Judy Campisi was recently elected to the National Academy of Sciences for her pioneering work on senescent cells, which stop dividing under stress, and accumulate over our lifetime while secreting factors that cause inflammation and lead to tissue degradation. Cellular senescence has been linked to many age-related diseases including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, osteoarthritis, glaucoma, and heart and lung disease.
Dr. Campisi will talk about ongoing projects in her lab and provide an update on Unity Biotechnology, which was incubated at the Buck and is in a Phase I clinical trial for osteoarthritis.
