Event Details

Millions of people around the world desperately need therapies that can only emerge from scientific discovery. However, new drugs for diseases such as malaria face many bottlenecks and barriers. As a result, few therapies make it to the people who most need them. Chris Wilson is a senior advisor for the Discovery and Translational Sciences team at the Gates Foundation. On May 12, Chris will explain how the Foundation sources and fosters the development of innovative solutions. Using examples of unmet needs, he will share potential approaches, and discuss an issue that may seem counterintuitive: solutions that are practical in low-income settings must often meet more stringent performance standards than solutions that are practical in high-income settings.
