You will need to bring a laptop with a recent web browser for this workshop.
This session we will be using BLAST, the basic alignment tool that is the meat and potatoes of finding relationships between biological sequences. In the unix environment it can be terribly powerful and tonight we\’ll take some genome data we looked at last time to find relationships between two organisms.
This evenings bioinformatics program will include unix for beginners. Unix, though written in the early 1970s, unix is the most popular environment for processing data and software development. Including biological data.
We will set up a basic developers workflow with the jedit development system which makes it easy to develop on the cloud. Come a bit early (6 pm) for help setting this up.
Hope you can join us!
The fee for the workshop includes access to a unix system through your web browser for a month (extendable).
Workshop by Ron Shigeta PhD, a 10+ year bioinformatics veteran in biotech and a co-founder of Berkeley BioLabs
