How to Set Up a Lab

(Budget Development & Negotiating Start Ups)

Friday, April 18, 2014

4:30 P.M. – 5:30 P.M.

Are you starting to look for an academic position?

What kind of start-up package do you need?

How do you negotiate for that?

Find out what steps to take to reach your goal.

We\’ll be covering strategies on how to create budgets that will help negotiate a start-up. We\’ll give you key outlined steps to create your budget. A budget should serve 2 purposes;

1. To outline your lab\’s resource requirements.

2. To create the self-confidence which will help in negotiating and securing an academic position.

This is designed to be clear and concise without requiring an MBA degree. While this is targeted to Sr. postdocs looking to secure an academic position, junior PIs and grant applicants could also benefit.

This will be fairly relaxed and casual.  We\’ll be presenting current stats, case stories, and step-by-step strategies that others and we have used.  We encourage others to bring their own stories so that others could benefit from their experiences.

(Friday) 4:30 pm - 4:30 pm
